Sphenochoanal polyp in a child presented with recurrent middle ear effusion: a case report

Abstract Background Sphenochoanal is a rare benign sinu-nasal lesion. It arises from the sphenoid sinus and passes to choana then nasopharynx. usually presents with nasal obstruction, discharge, snoring, headache. has been reported—only once in English literature—to cause Eustachian tube dysfunction middle ear effusion (MEE) an adult male. In this report, we described 8-year-old child sphenochoanal polyp presented MEE. Case presentation An boy was referred us by his family physician recurrent earache. Otoscopic examination showed MEE on left side. Anterior rhinoscopy thick grayish discharge cavity. Nasal endoscopic posterior part of cavity obstructing choana. Computed tomography revealed soft tissue density extended Diagnosis established. Endoscopic surgery removal lesion ventilation insertion performed. Histopathologic confirmed that inflammatory. Follow-up for 1 year no recurrence. Conclusions which children could be endoscopy computed are important diagnosis. We recommend list as children.
